My biggest theory is changing your bad eating habits to healthy ones is to make simple substitutions in your everyday life that will allow you to change for the better with out having to quit everything cold turkey. So lately I have started changing out my milk for Coconut Milk. At first I was a bit freaked with the taste. I was thinking of milk and at first taste I thought I was drinking a watered down milk and I was not a fan.
After a day or two I started putting the coconut in my cereal and man it was a nice surprise. The taste of the coconut mixed with my whole grain cheerios was a delightful change. Then I started using it with my cooking and man oh man I am hooked! So I decided to let you all in on why Coconut Milk is so good for you and why you should add it to your grocery list next time you head to the store!
First – It aids in building strong bones! Coconut milk is not rich in calcium, but it is rich in phosphorus. Phosphorus is an essential nutrient that body needs for strengthening bones. Yes calcium is needed as well but there are other ways to get calcium that is less fattening.
Helps Maintain Blood Sugar – Glucose/sugar intolerance may cause manganese deficiency in your body. Coconut milk is a rich source of manganese. Manganese helps grow connective tissue in your body as well as regulate blood sugar, which is a big cause of diabetes. Whole grains, legumes and nuts are some excellent sources of manganese.
Keeps skin and blood vessels flexible and elastic – For all of you that may have stretching skin these days think about how badly you want it to go back to normal! This will help your body stay strong as well as keep your vessels from breaking.
Relaxes Muscles and Nerves – Whenever you feel muscle cramps or muscle soreness, have some coconut milk. It is rich in magnesium and can help you in relieving the problem. One of the functions of magnesium is it acts as a gate block in many nerve cells. If magnesium is not present in body, nerve cells become very active because of calcium that activates nerves.
Helps Control Weight – This is a big one for most people! Coconut milk makes you feel full very quickly because of high concentrations of dietary fiber. So if you are not a water person than try coconut milk!
Decreases Joint Inflammation – This is common in athletes as well as elderly people. Selenium is an important antioxidant. It controls the free radicals and thereby helps in relieving the symptoms of arthritis. It is observed that people with low levels of selenium may suffer from rheumatoid arthritis.
Lowers High Blood Pressure – Potassium helps in lowering blood pressure and coconut milk is full of it. So if you are having problems with your blood pressure make sure to pick up this amazing drink.
Helps maintain healthy immune system – Coconut milk helps to fight off colds, coughs and more It is rich in vitamin C…which boosts the immune system. So stop spending money on vitamin C packets and hit the local store for some coconut milk.
